History
At Charlton Wood Primary Academy we provide a high quality history education which will help pupils to gain coherent knowledge and understanding of Britain's past and that of the wider world.
Our history curriculum has been planned as a Trust from EYFS - Year 6 to allow our pupils to understand methods of historical enquiry and is designed to inspire pupils' curiosity to know more about the past. Teaching will equip pupils to ask perceptive questions, think critically, weigh evidence, sift arguments and develop perspective and judgement.
At Charlton Wood Primary Academy we know that history helps pupils to understand the complexity of people's lives, the process of change, the diversity of societies and relationships between different groups, as well as their own identity and the challenges of their time.
We select the content and sources in our history curriculum carefully so that children receive a balanced perspective, reflective of the diversity of the world, which actively celebrates black history and the contribution of women throughout the ages. We ensure that our history units lend themselves well to our promotion and learning of British values, with talks of democracy throughout the ages and discussions about the rule of law, tolerance and the rights of people.
