Teaching for mastery using explicit instruction
At Charlton Wood Primary Academy we teach for mastery using explicit instruction. Underpinning this approach is a belief that every child can achieve at least the expected age appropriate standard when given the right amount of time and high quality impactful instruction.
Teaching for mastery is not just about knowing facts; it is about understanding the facts and being able to apply and use the knowledge and skills across a variety of different situations. This means that children should be able to demonstrate a strong understanding of taught knowledge and skills and can apply these to different contexts independently without the need for scaffolds.
